Day 2 week 2

We had a great day of sailing yesterday and landed at Hoppies which seemed like a huge accomplishment, only because the next 2 days are going to be very remote, and we have talked about this for weeks. Hoppies is 23 miles from St.Louis and has been in business since 1934 and is written up in all the river travel books because it's the last gas, electricity and water for the next 250 miles. For the next 2 days we will be anchoring out at night and need to be self sufficient. The river will be the most challenging with blind curves and narrow passages. There will be many tugs and barges and they will all be bigger then us! This is what "Captains" dream of and makes a Captain out of a man! Reality is.....4 people without showers for 3 days, in a boat, on challenging waterways,....this will make us or break us! We had a big meal last night with our new friends and filled our bellies with delicious Italian food. Somehow we think sitting on a boat all day, we need to load up on carbs so we can make it through the next day! For some strange reason our pants are getting tighter....could it be the humidity in the air? The sunrises on the river are truly mystical with the glow of the sun and the fog sitting over the water! Mornings have a chill to the air but as the day goes on the sun takes over and almost gets to intense, but Judy and I are sun lovers and have found time to sit on the bough of the boat like hood ornaments! We are excited and nervous about what today will bring but know whatever comes up our Captain and First Mate can handle it! We will post when we can and attach pics! Stay tuned and we love to see comments!

  1. Showering is overrated. Guess you will just need to drink for the next 2 days to pass the time.

Continued success in your great adventure.
